Martin Rondeau was born in 1970 in Joliette, Quebec, and currently lives and works in Montreal. From an early age, Martin Rondeau became fascinated with the world of photography. Recognized for his unique vision and creativity, he trained with a number of great photographers who provided him with the opportunity to travel the world and find his vocation.
It was in 2006 that Martin Rondeau, then a highly-praised fashion photographer, decided to take his relationship with photography a step further. Endeavoring to take a different approach to understand what an image is, and by extension, what is photography, Martin Rondeau set off to test the limits of the medium. Since then, he has turned his relentless aesthetic eye into a creative force. With extreme precision, Martin Rondeau began to lacerate, weave, and sculpt his photographs. By deconstructing his work, and playing with the visibility of the image, he aims to reveal the intrinsic beauty in the widespread iconography of women.
By using a bold and contemporary technique, Martin Rondeau selects and re-appropriates the image by weaving photographic details from daily perception. In constant search of beauty, he uses his intuitive creativity to combine materials, colours, and volumes, incorporating strength and fragility, solidity and lightness, seduction and sensuality, as to infuse his composite images with a new meaning.
